These things happen to me more often than I’d like to admit, even though I bake several times a week. For baking, though, you should let your cream cheese cool to room temperature so that it mixes well and doesn’t have any lumps. I’m going to talk about a few of the ways I quickly soften cream cheese when I need it for a meal today.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) package brick-style cream cheese

How To Make Cream Cheese Soft

At The Room Temperature

To let cream cheese soften at room temperature, you can either break up the block into small cubes or let the whole block soften.

  • To bring the whole block down: Take the cream cheese package out of the fridge and leave it on the counter for an hour to an hour and a half.
  • Method of cubes: To make it go faster, open the cream cheese package and cut it into cubes. Place the cream cheese cubes in a room that is not cold for twenty to thirty minutes.

With Hot Water

  • This is my best way to quickly soften cream cheese when I’m in a hurry!
  • Putting your cream cheese package in a bowl or small container of warm water for 10 to 15 minutes is fine as long as the lid is on tight.
  • Once you’ve opened the package, put the cream cheese in a ziplock bag and zip it up. Then, put the bag in the water.

Well In The Microwave

  • You might melt the cream cheese with this method, which is why it’s not my favorite. It is, however, the fastest way to do it, which is great if you need to get something done quickly!
  • To soften cream cheese in the microwave, take it out of the package and put it on a plate that can go in the microwave.
  • Put the plate with the cream cheese in the microwave and heat it for 5 seconds at a time, turning the cream cheese over every time. Most of the time, I flip mine three times and nuke it for 20 seconds.
