How to make it

For Donuts:

  • Heat the oven to 400°. Spray and flour two 6-well donut pans.
  • Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
  • In a separate basin, mix buttermilk, egg, butter, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Whisk the buttermilk and flour mixture until blended. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag or zip-top bag with one corner cut.
  • Each well should receive ¼ cup of donut batter. Puff and faintly golden donuts need 8–10 minutes to bake. Invert onto a wire rack and top immediately.

For toppings:

  • Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Let the donuts cool for 2 minutes after baking, then toss half in cinnamon sugar. If the donuts are too cold and the sugar mixture isn’t sticking, brush lightly with melted butter and toss.
  • Mix the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla in another small bowl after the donuts are totally cooled. Glaze cooled donuts and restore to wire rack. Add sprinkles now if desired. Stand until glazing sets.

Q1. Can I Make This In Advance?

These donuts taste best fresh. Refrigerate leftover donuts for a week in an airtight container. Store donuts in a single layer to prevent glaze sticking.

Q2. What Are Some Other Topping Ideas?

To make chocolate-covered donuts, add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the glaze or create a basic chocolate ganache. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top of donuts instead of glazing. Grated lemon zest, shredded coconut, or chopped nuts create excellent donut toppers instead of sprinkles.

Q3. Can I Make This Without A Donut Pan?

Bake this baked donut recipe in a muffin pan if you don’t have a donut pan. You may imitate a donut pan with tinfoil center holes.

Q4. Can I Freeze These Donuts?

Yes you can! Bake the donuts without the glaze in a single layer on a lined sheet pan and freeze for 2–3 months in a freezer bag. After thawing overnight in the fridge, microwave them and glaze them before eating.
